The term Cigányvajda - Gypsy King is a historical concept, referring to a leader chosen from within the Romani community by local or national authorities. The vajda system has not existed since the 18th century, and its continuation in contemporary society is not supported by historical evidence. In popculture Easter-Europeans call someone with wealth and power a Gypsy Kind. József Árvay captured the diverse, colorful personality and life of a typical Cigányvajda.
