You can smell the air

You are 10 and walking to your grandma's house at the countryside. The air feels like summer, you can smell the scent of fresh grass, you know you’re being warmly welcomed. This painting reminds me of the Nagybánya painters — even if not with the same level of refinement. The movement began in 1896 in Nagybánya (now in Romania, but part of Hungary at the time), where a group of artists, led by Simon Hollósy, founded an artists’ colony. The members of the group aimed to observe nature directly and practiced plein air (open-air) painting, breaking away from the academic style.
